These three creatives want to stir things up a bit in the Scottish Capital’s design world by organising a series of meetings where people interested in widely understood design can come together, discuss ideas and learn from one another. Additionally, they want to embark on a cultural exploration of different ethnic groups living in cosmopolitan Edinburgh for search of inspiration and undiscovered ideas. A great example would be last year’s Polish Cultural Festival (www.polishculturalfestival.org.uk), where traditional Polish motif of folk cut-outs was adapted for a brand identity. The grand opening will take place in the Forest Cafe, well known for various creative and communal initiatives, and was made possible thanks to extensive support from Christoff van de Merwe. The setting has for a long time been a breeding ground for all sort of artistic ideas and it will surely enhance the atmosphere of he group's meeting.

There is under a month to the very first official meeting of a brand new design user group in Edinburgh, with a rather pleasantly sounding name: Open Source Creative Community. The non-profit association, started by Mariusz Pankiewicz, Dawid Nabialek and Robert Motyka – three Edinburgh-based designers – can be summed up in three words: learn, unite, explore.
With such educational establishments as Edinburgh’s Telford College already expressing their interest in the Open Source Creative Community, the project is bound to grow and become much more exciting and interesting. For more details, simply visit to
